Thank you notes for wedding gifts

I made a brief joke last post about the confusion that can result from writing out thank you notes for wedding gifts after the wedding is over.  It’s really a headache sometimes and really a wrist cramp for whomever ends up writing out the notes.  Don’t worry too much about getting all those notes out right after the wedding.  No one expects you to spend your honeymoon writing thank you notes!

Also the proper etiquette for those thank you notes for wedding gifts is that you have one year to get all the notes to your guests.  So sit back and relax for a couple of weeks.  A good way to ensure that you get to those notes and don’t get completely fed up with them is to set up a quota for each evening and just write them out while you sit at the computer.  Only writing up two or three a day and addressing their envelopes will be enough to get your thank you notes done in plenty of time.

It can be difficult to remember who has given you what gift at the wedding and even who attended the wedding when you first sit down to your thank you notes for wedding gifts project.  So be certain to have someone take good notes of the gift received and the name of the person who gave it when you open those wedding gifts up after the reception!

Ideally your note taker will be someone with nice handwriting.  You don’t want to have to call them up a few months down the road and ask them whether they meant ‘Sarah’ or ‘Sandra’ and if that gift was a ‘blowdryer’ or a ‘blender’.  Also make a couple photocopies of that list so you have an extra on hand in case you lose the list.

Wedding gift money poems for your homemade cards

Posted by Hope on August 25th, 2007

It is traditional in many cultures to give the gift of money in order to get man and wife off to a good start in wedded bliss. As such its also traditional to include a fun little wedding gift money poem in the card, which will both make the bride and groom laugh and earn you brownie points. I thought I’d try my hand at a couple of short verses to help you in your poem quest. Feel free to use these poems at your leisure.

Why Buy the Cow When the Milk is Free

Today’s the day, you pay the price
to get that milking cow.

But, Farmer John said it best
‘why buy the cow,
when the milk is less!’

The above wedding gift money poem may only be suitable as part of the groom’s gift, unless his new wife is a very humorous and understanding lady. Poems aren’t that hard to write, especially quick little verses. As long as they have a funny theme you’ll find that the audience can be very forgiving on little things like exact rhymes or an odd number of syllables.

Fish in the Sea

Fishing is a delightful
trade, best done with proper bait.
worms do not make a fool,
instead for sex, you must make him wait!

It has been said
that plenty of fish
live in the sea, yet,
this one best fulfilled your wish!

Reel ‘em in, reel ‘em in
Lest they forget
That they are men!

I like the fun nature of the above little ditty. Of course you can mix and match its verses to make something original and fun for your wedding gift money poem. It’s more suitable for the bride, and you may find it just the right poem for her bridal shower gift. Have a great time at the wedding!
