You’ve been invited at the last minute to a great friend’s wedding and of course will be one of many that are obligated to bring wedding party gifts with you.  Great!  Except for the fact that you’ve also been a bit short on the cash lately.  What do you do?  Number one, don’t panic and don’t do something tacky like write them a check for one million dollars post-dated in the year 2057.  Unless, you really plan on having one million dollars by then…

There are a few ways you can come up with a really memorable wedding gift without paying a lot.  First, siphon through your own personal skill set and see what you have available.  Lots of people have skills that they can use to create something nice for their friends and family members.  Are you a writer?  Do you know how to create nifty little web pages?  Can you sew or knit?  These are all great skill sets and they can all be used to create great wedding party gifts on the cheap.

You could for instance create a website portraying all of the events leading up to the wedding and of some that take place after the wedding, which can be done entirely free if you know what places to go to online.  If you know how to write you can plan a wedding book for the couple.  Interview them and relatives to include great stories and snippets about what each partner thought of the other’s quirks.  Detail how things went leading up to the wedding.  Create some good wishes pages with special thoughts from friends and family members that you gather before the wedding.  Put together a little plan and you’ll be surprised by how much content you can think up for the wedding book.  Then have it bound or, pay for an online publisher to print it on the cheap and present it at the wedding.

A great place you can use for publishing a real bound copy of your wedding party gift is Lulu.com (www.lulu.com).  This site will let you upload a word document and your own artisitic book cover and print out just one copy of the wedding book if that’s all you can afford.  Another benefit to having a pay-per-book publisher is that you can give out a URL address of the page where wedding guests can go to download a copy or pay for their own bound versions of the wedding book.

Just sit down and see what you have in your own skill set and you’ll be surprised at what you come up with for a wedding gift to give on the cheap!
